The book reviews the recent progress in advanced manufacturing, with a particular focus on the rapidly developing area of additive manufacturing which has the potential of significantly lowering production costs and the amounts of wasted material. The book also addresses the sustainability issues of this methodology, with respect both to the processes and equipment as well as to the resulting products.

Esther Akinlabi is Professor at the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment of the University of Johannesburg, South Africa, and currently Vice Dean for Teaching and Learning. She was selected, from 57 nominations, to join the South African Young Academy of Science (SAYAS) in 2014. Her expertise is in the areas of materials science and technology, laser materials processing, and friction stir welding. Michael C. Agarana is post-doctoral research fellow at the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment of the University of Johannesburg, South Africa, and lecturer at the Department of Mathematics at the Covenant University, Nigeria. Stephen A. Akinlabi is senior researcher at the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment of the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. Before he pursued his academic career, he worked as engineer and project manager for various national and international companies.
