I wrote the story of Damon because I know what it feels like to struggle with ideas, and I wanted to communicate that this is OK. I also wanted to show how ideas and creativity can come when you least expect it, and that once the initial fear has been overcome, getting creative can be very fun!
Big Cat for Little Wandle Fluency has been developed in collaboration with Wandle Learning Trust and Little Sutton Primary School. It consists of a range of chapter books with increasing word counts across 10 fluency levels aimed at children in Year 2 and 3. Each book builds reading confidence, stamina and speed and nurtures a love for reading.
Fluency 1 books have a word count of 2880 words with an expected reading rate of 60 words per minute.
Damon is convinced that writing poetry is not for him, he’s just not that creative! With time running out to write a poem for homework, he gets in a spin. He turns to his family for help but they’re all too busy. It’s down to him alone … can he do it?
