Iris's grandmother, Mimi, has started to put jam on her scrambled eggs and tie blue ribbons around her fingers to remind her of stuff. Her house, always full of things, is becoming harder and harder to navigate, and when Iris goes to stay, she feels as if a whole life is becoming muddled up. As her grandmother's memory fades, a mystery is uncovered. Who is Coral, and what happened to her?

A moving exploration of memory and stories, told through the eyes of a grandchild losing a beloved grandparent to dementia. Beautifully, engagingly told, this is an ultimately hopeful book for our time.

A moving story of a grandmother living with dementia, told from her granddaughter's perspective. Important and accessible storytelling for 9+ readers.
When I first moved in Dad took my case up to Mum's old room and (I'm not exaggerating) he jumped back when he opened the door as if a seal was juggling bananas on the bed. His smile was slipping around his face and it wasn't because he was worried about the twins, because they were downstairs watching Chitty Chitty Bang Bang with Mimi. It was because you couldn't see the bed for all the boxes and clothes piled on top and you couldn't see the floor for all the boxes and books piled on the carpet. Because there's a whole life here, all muddled up, and photographs of lots and lots of other lives and when we'd cleared a path to the bed it felt as though we were in a cave full of treasure. And when I go to sleep I imagine all the stories wrapped around me and wonder if they'll come into my dreams.

S.E. Durrant has wanted to be a writer since she was a child and has always squeezed writing in around the edges of her life. She spent her childhood in Scotland before moving to Leicestershire when she was twelve. She studied Fine Art (painting) and then travelled widely before settling in south London. She has taken on many jobs including working on a stall at Covent Garden market, selling paintings in Venice and teaching art to children. For many years she worked on research bids at the University of London. She now lives in Brighton with her partner and two teenage children, all of whom are taller than she is.
