I fell for this beautiful book when it first came out- before Chloe Savage, rightfully, won the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize 2024: Best Illustrated Book- with it... The Search for the Giant Arctic Jellyfish is the very believable story of an Arctic explorer and her dedicated team made magical by the stunning illustrations which do- incredibly well- two of the things that children love in a picture story book- offering minute detail, of the can-you-spot, countable kind, and the ‘it’s-behind-you’ (underneath you, just round the corner from you) kind of surprise; right to the very end…Which, for any grown-up who’s had to call it a day on a dream, brings a tear to the eye while at the same time managing to remind us that an ending is not always the end.
