• Paddington is a classic bear, instantly recognisable to parents and loved by adults and children, alike, all over the world. An international success, published in over 30 languages, with more than 29 million units sold worldwide!

• Michael Bond celebrated his 90th birthday in 2016, and was awarded a CBE for his services to children’s literature, to add to the OBE he received in 1997. He died in 2017, leaving behind one of the greatest literary legacies of our time.

• A celebration of the life of Michael Bond was held at St Paul's Cathedral on 14th November 2017.

• Paddington is the star of two blockbuster movies from Studio Canal.

• Michael wrote a piece which was read out by David Attenborough at the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations in St Paul’s Cathedral, June 2016, televised by the BBC.

• Paddington was voted the UK’s best animated character of all time at the British Animation Awards 2012

Michael Bond was born in Newbury, Berkshire on 13 January 1926 and educated at Presentation College, Reading. He served in the Royal Air Force and the British Army before working as a cameraman for BBC TV for 19 years. In 2015, Michael was awarded a CBE for his services to children’s literature, to add to the OBE he received in 1997. Michael died in 2017, leaving behind one of the great literary legacies of our time.
