I went to ten different schools (that's a lot). I was always that new kid. Along the way, I learned that if I could make people laugh, then things would generally be okay, so that's what I've carried on doing. I ended up working as a writer at Channel 4, I've also written a John Lewis Christmas advert and lots of children's books. They've been translated into over 25 languages and twice been named 'Books of the Year' in The Guardian.

Guilherme Karsten (Illustrator)
Guilherme lives in Blumenau, in southern Brazil. In 2010, he won a national contest for new children's book illustrators and has been working with editorial illustrations ever since. After illustrating many books for other authors, Guilherme started writing his own books in 2017. Guilherme's work has been published worldwide and has received various accolades, including the Jabuti Award and the Golden Pinwheel Grand Award. Guilherme continues to seek ways to entertain and delight children through his art and stories.
When my amazing adventure began, I was just a seed. It's true. But with a little help from Derek the squirrel and Barbara the beetle, I turned into a tiny sapling, a handsome tree and, finally . . . a wonderful book! And guess what? I'm the book that you're holding. A book to be loved, shared and cherished forever.

So here we are. Once I was a tree. Who grew into a book. And I know just the story to share. It's got a beetle called Barbara. And a part where I come out of a squirrel's bottom. It will teach children all about how books . . . come from trees . . . which come from seeds. And wait for this . . .
The book that I grew into . . . is the book that you're holding. I'm not tall. But I'm still quite handsome. And I still smell good. Don't you think?
