Dick Bruna (1927-2017) was Dutch illustrator and author, best known as the creator of Miffy. Bruna wrote and illustrated over 120 titles, and his books have sold more than 85 million copies in over 50 languages. A keen artist throughout his childhood, Bruna was a self-taught illustrator — taking influence from the likes of Van Gogh, Matisse, and the De Stijl movement. His first picture book, The Apple, was published in Holland in 1953.
