In the vein of Eloise, Olivia, and Fancy Nancy, Carmen is a little girl with a BIG personality. She loves the spotlight and fame that comes with being an actress, and she only grudgingly shares attention with her adoring little brother, Eduardo - especially when the prize is a starring role in a commercial.  Carmen and her family speak a mix of English and Spanish, inspired the author’s loving exchanges with her father as a little girl.

“This delightful sequel to Starring Carmen! (2017) is equally as charming as its predecessor. Again, there is positive messaging for emotional development (how to be happy when you don’t win, how to value your siblings) and a terrific, understated celebration of diversity (sprinkled Spanish words and the subtle, beautiful representation of a mixed-race family).”

Om bidragsyterne

Anika Denis is the celebrated children’s book author and poet of four picture books, including Baking Day at Grandma’s, Bella and Stella Come Home, and Pigs Love Potatoes, all illustrated by her New York Times-bestselling husband, artist Christopher Denise. She is also the author of MonsterTrucks (July 2007) illustrated by celebrated Pixar artist Nate Wragg. Already known for her rollicking pace and her wordsmithing skills, not to mention her natural mischievous spark, Anika's writing in Carmen is no exception. Inspired by Anika's own childhood, many of the Spanish phrases in the story are ones her Peurto Rican father used as terms of endearment.   Lorena Alvarez Gomez is a freelance illustrator from Bogota, Colombia. Her work reflects her interest in color language and her willingness to experiment with diverse techniques and concepts. She has created illustrations for children books, independent publications, advertising and fashion magazines.
