Empathy: Feeling Great encourages children to recognize and label emotions. This will help them to not only regulate their own behaviour, but also interpret the feelings of others more easily. As the book shows animals and humans exhibiting certain emotions, a child can subconsciously develop their empathy towards all living things. Regulation of emotions: The illustrations invite questions which can aid emotional development; Why is the baby kicking his toys? Is he smiling? Is he frowning? Why could he be feeling grumpy? What makes you feel grumpy? Kicking toys can be dangerous – is there a safer way to show you’re upset? Self Esteem: Another title in this series, Looking Good, promotes self-esteem by encouraging children to be proud of different parts of their body. Self-confidence: The text in Feeding Time follows the pattern of “[Animal] likes [food]. Me too!” which promotes a child’s sense of self-confidence by inspiring conversations about their own likes and dislikes.

Om bidragsyterne

Ailie is an illustrator living with her family in the North East of England. She loves dogs, lions, cycling, trees, violet creams, orange pencils, knitted toys and listening to ‘The Archers’. Quite a number of years ago, Ailie studied Graphic Design, and then specialised in Illustration at Cambridge School of Art. Ailie uses a mixed media approach to her work – including a combination of acrylic paint, and pencils mixed with collage and photoshop. Many things influence her work: nature and animals are a constant inspiration, plus 1950’s and 60’s children’s books, pattern and colour. Ailie is best known for her colourful pre-school and novelty formats.
