Giles Andreae was born in 1966. After studying English at Oxford, he created the cartoon character Purple Ronnie (with illustrator, Janet Cronin) and has had huge success with the Purple Ronnie books. He has also worked as a designer and a songwriter. Giles is the author of some of Orchard's best selling picture books. His book Giraffes Can't Dance was Sheffield Children's Book of the Year, Commotion in the Ocean was short-listed for the Nottinghamshire Children's Book Award and The Lion who Wanted to Love won the Children's Book Award.
