Jason Goodwin studied Byzantine history at Cambridge University and is the author of Lords of the Horizons: A History of the Ottoman Empire, among other books of cultural history and travel. He lives in Sussex, England, is married with four children, speaks French and German and once walked to Istanbul from Poland. This is the first of a series of novels featuring Yashim.

Andrew Sachs is best known for his 12 week stint as Manuel in Fawlty Towers. His other screen credits are many, from The History of Mr. Polly to a Horizon special (as Einstein) and from Shakespeare to the Tommy Cooper Show. He has written and performed in countless radio plays. Andrew is frequently heard as narrator of documentaries and was voted Performer of the Year at the Spoken Word Awards.
