Exciting action, a taut plot, and strong characterization. More please. Recommended.

Historical Novel Review on the A Time for Swords series

An absolutely riveting historical adventure, continuing the A Time for Swords series in epic style. In the fourth book Hunlaf is looking back to 797AD and a race across the Mediterranean for a Christian relic. This is actually my first foray into these novels, and I found it beautifully easy to join the action, I most definitely want to go back to the first book and continue in order as this has all the hallmarks of a cracking series. Hunlaf and his comrades battle their way into unknown lands with determination, and while there are plenty of thrills and spills, there is also time for relationships to form, doubt to grow, and betrayal to occur. Matthew Harffy writes with an assured eloquence, I felt able to throw myself into the history and the culture, and just believe. I particularly enjoyed the scene setting and exploring the surrounding landscapes. The Hunlaf of the future tells his tale from a different perspective and it’s interesting to see the same man into two timeframes. I am very happy to have joined this quest and look forward to further adventures. Extremely satisfying and rewarding, Dominion of Dust rampages across the page with slicing action in a fascinating historical setting.
