Terry L. Jones is a professor of history at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. He received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from Louisiana Tech and his Ph.D. from Texas A&M. He has two previous books with LSU Press, The Civil War Memoirs of Captain William J. Seymour (1991) and Lee's Tigers (1987).
G. Campbell Brown, cousin and stepson of famed Confederate General Richard S. Ewell (the second-in-command of "Stonewall" Jackson), served on Ewell's staff throughout the Civil War. From First Manassas to the South's surrender, Brown was on hand to see the inner workings of Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia. Brown's wartime correspondence, memorandums, and diary are compiled here, and they provide insight and details about virtually all of the major campaigns in the Virginia theater.
