Anna Reckin made a career in publishing in England before going to graduate school in the US, where she took an MFA in Creative Writing at the University of Minnesota and then a PhD in the Poetics Programme at SUNY Buffalo. She now lives in Norwich, where she works part-time as a creative-writing teacher and freelance editor. Her poetry has appeared in magazines in the UK and the US, including Shearsman, How2 and Chain. Her first book, Broder(Traffic Street Press, 2000), an artist's-book collaboration with photographer Paulette Myers-Rich, won a Minnesota Book award; a pamphlet, Spill (Chibcha Press) appeared in 2004.
Landscape, textiles, plant-forms, the mysterious taxonomies of perfume are here themes for poetry that works the edge between lyric consonance and radical disjuncture. Three Reds, Anna Reckin's first book-length collection, draws on materials from China, Australia, Portugal and her native East Anglia to produce poems whose emotional complexities surface in the push and pull of sound patterns and visual design, and in the gaps and overlaps of words' makings and their givens.
