The fifth volume of rhyming poems by Dennis B. Wilson, published in his 93rd year and with an introduction setting out his manifesto for 'Real' Poetry, which Dennis believes should be 'like music, written in words instead of notes.' Dennis believes rhyming poetry is 'best loved by the general public.' From Bard To Verse is a collection of 80 of his poems written between 1938 and 2013 and ranging in tone from the comedic 'Many A Slip' about trying to catch the soap in the bath (1939) to the poignant 'Keep Taking The Tablets' reflecting on the emotions and reality of advanced age (2013). Dennis Wilson's powerful Second World War poem Elegy of a Common Soldier came to national prominence in 2012 as the work of a witness and participant in the Battle of Normandy, which he survived in 1944 after receiving life changing shrapnel wounds. He left the Army as a Captain, to pursue a noteworthy career with Encyclopaedia Britannica.
He has written poetry all his life living in Southampton, where he has always extolled the virtues of poems that rhyme and scan, are easily understood, and has faithfully supported Southampton Football Club (The Saints) where he is a season ticket holder and rarely misses a home game.
