Philip Ridley was born and brought up in the East End of London. His first play, The Pitchfork Disney, changed the course of British theatre. His other plays include Moonfleece, Vincent River, Mercury Fur, Leaves of Glass, Tender Napalm, Radiant Vermin, and The Poltergeist.<i>The Vespers</i> is utterly amazing. Ridley’s writing is marvelously precise and constantly surprising in its twists and turns. At every point he manages to evoke ideas and feelings that are both thrilling and true.
