This book examines China’s relationship with the nations of the Middle East and is written by leading researchers and Middle East specialists at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS). This is a timely contribution to the study of the Middle East as China’s presence in the region becomes more apparent.
The authors begin by examining the historical relations between China and the Middle East; the shared experiences and cultural affinity of ancient civilizations. They then go on to examine military exchanges between China and the region with particular emphasis on exchanges with Iran.
At a time when the world looks to the Middle East many nations in the region, for example Turkey, are “Looking East” to China and this book examines the strengthening economic ties between China and the Middle East. In depth examination is devoted to China’s relations with Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Israel and Iran and China’s standpoint on the latter’s nuclear position is examined.
This book will be of interest to anyone wanting a Chinese perspective on China’s relationships and interests in the Middle East and an appreciation of China’s strategic options.
