Pat Bazeley is Director of Research Support P/L and Adjunct Professor in the Translational Research and Social Innovation Centre at Western Sydney University. Since graduating in psychology, she has worked in community development, as an evaluation researcher, and in academic research development. For almost 30 years Pat has been providing research training and project consulting to academics, graduate students and practitioners representing a wide range of disciplines across Australia and internationally. Her particular expertise is in helping researchers to make sense of qualitative, survey, and mixed methods data, and to use computer programs for management and analysis of data. Pat’s research has focused on qualitative and mixed methods data analysis, the development and performance of researchers, and the wellbeing of older women. She has published books, chapters, and articles on mixed methods and qualitative data analysis. She serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Mixed Methods Research and was 2015–2016 President of the Mixed Methods International Research Association.Bazeley addresses one of the biggest challenges faced by mixed methods researchers: the integration of data and interpretation of results that come from different data collection methods. She does so in a comprehensive and systematic way that is enhanced by the use of multiple examples that illustrate multiple mixed methods data analysis strategies. Bazeley also includes a diagram for each chapter that guides readers, making it easy to follow the detailed and thoughtful process provided in this important book. In addition, she demonstrates how integration can be accomplished using a variety of software packages, thus making this an excellent guide for the new and advanced mixed methods researcher. <p>Patricia Bazeley has produced a much needed and awaited text which addresses the main issues and controversies around truly integrated mixed methods research. A common criticism of those claiming to be utilising mixed methods research designs is that there appears to be a lack of integration of the qualitative and quantitative data when analysing data and reporting that analysis. This is a very timely book as the mixed methods research community is maturing and and a wide range of disciplines are taking up mixed methods research. The text is accessible to both quantitative and qualitative researchers, detailing clear guidelines on how and when to integrate data collected via different methods. Although many people claim to conduct mixed methods research, Bazeley shows an in-depth understanding of both quantitative and qualitative methods of data collection and analysis and is therefore able to highlight the strengths and pitfalls of integrating data.
