Traditional anti-anxiety medications and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) are popular treatments for clients suffering from a wide range of anxiety disorders. However, there is a clear need for improved efficacy of these approaches, either when administered as mono-therapies or in combination. A promising contemporary approach to combination therapy is to enhance the mechanism of CBT utilizing pharmacological agents. Psychobiological Approaches for Anxiety Disorders represents the first work to offer a comprehensive overview of the latest empirical evidence and research results on conventional and novel combination therapies for the treatment of anxiety disorders. Leading experts in neuroscience, psychiatry, psychopharmacology, emotion research, and psychotherapy address the evidence for and against combining pharmacological agents with CBT for the treatment of anxiety disorders, and outline the most promising future approaches. The result is an invaluable resource for clinicians and researchers alike.
