‘Philippa Gregory reigns supreme’
Today

A wickedly witty tale of modern manners, happily suggesting that PC is not the only way to be.
Dr Louise Case has the right career, the right country cottage and a commitment-free relationship with a fellow academic. According to contemporary codes, it’s all very correct – except that Louise begins to suspect that it’s far from perfect.
Then along comes Rose, eighty if she’s a day, who effortlessly disrupts everything. Soon both campus and cottage are in chaos, while the old lady commences to set her own house – a decrepit old van – in order. And this includes an unthinkably traditional role for Louise…
A wickedly witty tale of modern manners, happily suggesting that PC is not the only way to be.
• Will strike a chord with anyone who’s tried to keep a household, a marriage and a job going at the same time, anyone with experience of the snobbery of the academic world, anyone stuck in a relationship with the wrong partner…and there’s a happy ending.
• Set to follow TV tie-in of A RESPECTABLE TRADE (BBC).
• Philippa Gregory’s previous contemporary satire, MRS HARTLEY AND THE GROWTH CENTRE, was widely acclaimed and made into a Screen 2 production.
• Media profile of this author remains consistently high, with regular appearances on Radio 4 and as reviewer for the Sunday Times.
