This is an activity based book for students beginning business studies courses, particularly as part of a vocational or pre-vocational course. Students learn through being part of a simple organization which deals with real commercial ventures and administrative tasks. Guidance is given on how to set up the organization and the role of each department. The skills of communication, numeracy, typing, information technology and bookkeeping are gradually introduced and business is related to its wider economic, social and political background. Instructions are provided on how to use the organization for ventures such as school or college events and day-trips, operating an information centre and publishing a magazine. The book is suitable for the following courses: CPVE, BTEC First Certificate, RSA Diploma in Office Procedures and other Office Studies awards, GCSE Business Studies and Commerce and business studies within TVEI and SCOTVEC modules.
