An energizing case for hope about the climate, from Rebecca Solnit (“the voice of the resistance”—New York Times), climate activist Thelma Young Lutunatabua, and a chorus of voices calling on us to rise to the moment. Not Too Late is the book for anyone who is despondent, defeatist, or unsure about climate change and seeking answers. As the contributors to this volume make clear, the future will be decided by whether we act in the present—and we must act to counter institutional inertia, fossil fuel interests, and political obduracy. These dispatches from the climate movement around the world feature the voices of organizers like Guam-based lawyer and writer Julian Aguon; climate scientists like Dr. Jacquelyn Gill and Dr. Edward Carr; poets like Marshall Islands activist Kathy Jetnil-Kijner; and longtime organizers like The Tyranny of Oil author Antonia Juhasz. Guided by Rebecca Solnit’s typical clear-eyed wisdom and enriched by photographs and quotes, Not Too Late leads readers from discouragement to possibilities, from climate despair to climate hope.

HOPE IN THE DARK FOR THE CLIMATE CRISIS: In the tradition of previous books by the award-winning, acclaimed, bestselling writer Rebecca Solnit, Not Too Late will counter despair and make the case for hope, here through a collection of essays, poems, activist posters, and other illustrations from a range of voices at the frontlines of the climate movement. NOT TOO LATE PROJECT PARTNERSHIP: #NotTooLate, a project to invite newcomers to the climate movement, is a collaboration between Solnit and Fiji-based climate activist Thelma Young Lutunatabua. They have planned a series of events and teach-ins tied to publication, featuring many of the contributors to this book, who include climate journalist and Hot Take podcast cohost Mary Annaïse Heglar, former Sunrise Movement organizer Nikayla Jefferson, and scientists Dr. Jacquelyn Gill and Dr. Edward Carr, among others. VISUAL TIE-IN TO SOLNIT BOOKS: Not Too Late will have the same cover look as Solnit’s previous Haymarket’s titles, including Hope in the Dark, Call Them By Their True Names, and Men Explain Things to Me, making a perfect package for Solnit’s fans.
