Review of the previous edition: The strengths of this edition include the logical organization and sequence within each chapter and a content summary and overview at the beginning of each chapter. Key vocabulary terms are italicized in the text and accompanied by definitions and clarifications when necessary. Illustrations are clear with appropriately detailed identifications and labels. Photomicrographs and radiographic images are used to complement select illustrations and text on certain topics. Historical perspectives and commentary boxes containing brief and concise information about relevant clinical topics are interspersed throughout each chapter. Diagrams, tables, flow charts, and commentary boxes have gentle, visually appealing coloring. The book concludes with 2 appendices. One is a vocabulary review, and the other contains valuable re-view questions in multiple-choice and fill-in-the-blank formats, along with the answers to those questions.

Victoria Aspinall (Author) Victoria qualified as a veterinary surgeon from the University of Bristol, and is married to a veterinarian whom she met when she was training. After a short time in practice, she left to have four children. During this time Victoria and her husband started their own practice but on returning to full time work she went into teaching veterinary nurses, which she did for 20 years. Victoria has written a range of textbooks for veterinary nurses and has also represented the interests of vet nurses on various Royal College committees. She is now retired but still retains links with her profession. Melanie Cappello (Author) Melanie qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 1990, with experience in mixed and small animal practice, going on to work at The Royal Veterinary College. She attended University College London and graduated in 1996 with an honours degree in Zoology. Melanie joined The College of Animal Welfare as a lecturer in Anatomy and Physiology, where she taught this subject to veterinary nurses and attained a PGCE (PCET). This role led to her collaboration with Vicky Aspinall to co-write the A & P chapter for the Textbook of Veterinary Nursing, and subsequently the textbook An Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology. Melanie was involved in establishing the first veterinary clinical skills centre in the UK, at The Royal Veterinary College, culminating in a position as an Academic Fellow in Veterinary Education. After a move to Sussex with her husband (a veterinary surgeon) and family, Melanie spent ten years working in a primary school, before combining all her interests in her current role working as a freelance Environmental Educator on behalf of The David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation.
