In Kodachrome paradise
Fred Herzog in top form. His images from the heyday of Kodachrome photography are legendary: street shots of the 1950s and 1960s bathed in warm red-orange tones, precise observations of people and their movements in the city. Often poetic, sometimes witty, always from a respectful distance, yet with an intimate atmosphere. Herzog, who lived in Vancouver from 1953, created a colorful monument to the city. He also traveled to the United States, Barbados, Curaçao, Guatemala, and Mexico, always with his Leica in his luggage. At a time when professional photography relied almost exclusively on black and white, Herzog's position is something special. These photographs were selected by Andy Sylvester, Special Trustee of the Estate of Fred Herzog in conjunction with Equinox Gallery, and continue his important legacy.
