Chapter 1 focusing on the constitutional politics and World War II, provides insights into India's economic condition, war industries, defence preparations, curbs on the press and the provincial ministries of Sind, Punjab, Assam, Bengal, and Orissa. Chapter 2 examines the national struggle and government repression through the activities of political parties like Indian National Congress, Communist Party of India, Congress Socialist Party, Radical Democratic Party, India League, Forward Bloc as well as the condition of political prisoners. The last chapter studies the role of students, women, and culture in the Indian national movement.
