John Peel is a newspaper writer and editor, book author, and novelist, and has lived and hiked in Southwest Colorado since 1990. He has climbed more than half the state’s Fourteeners but these days gets as much of a thrill out of a good Thirteener. He lives with his wife, Judy, in Durango, Colorado. Paul Pixler was a retired professor of philosophy at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, and a former chairman of the San Juan Chapter of the Colorado Mountain Club. He divided his time between Durango and southern Arizona and was an avid hiker.
