Dr B. B. Das is a Professor of Civil Engineering at the National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal, India. After completing his PhD at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, in 2007, he worked for two years as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at the Centre for Innovative Materials Research (CIMR), Lawrence Technological University, Southfield, Michigan, USA. His current research interests include design and development of sustainable construction and building materials leading to net-zero carbon emission, microstructure and durability of concrete, construction planning and practices. In an era when environmental concerns were at the forefront of global discussions, Prof. Das recognized the urgent need to revolutionize the construction sector and developed Sustainable Construction and Building Materials Laboratory (SCBM Lab) in 2018 at the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal, a specialized lab that practices the theme "Sustainability". He has co-authored around 150 scientific and technical publications (SCI/SCOPUS) in the area of construction materials.
