R. Williams Parry was born in Talysarn in 1884 and become one of Wales' most notable poets of the twentieth century. He spent his life working as a teacher, first in primary schools then, after a brief period in the army, as a lecturer at University College Bangor. He earned widespread recognition for his poetry when he won the chair at the National Eisteddfod in 1910 for his poem 'Yr Haf'. 'Eifionydd' is one of his most noted works.
